IC Rules

  1. Never betray or undermine The Family.
The first duty is to The Boss, and the second duty to The Family. Respect, or face the consequences.

  2. When given an order by a superior, obey.
While orders may be few, insubordination is not tolerated.

  3. Do not reveal the secrets of The Family to outsiders.
    Be discreet in your dealings.
Do not lead the enemies of The Family to our home.

OOC Rules

1. Treat everyone with respect.

This means absolutely no OOC drama. If you are found to be a constant source of OOC drama, you will be approached by one of our Officers and will be given one warning. Failure to remedy this misconduct will result in removal from the company.

Know when to let go of an argument. No one wants to be wrong, but while disagreements happen, it is disrespectful to lash out to your fellow members over such a thing. This also means do not use passive-aggressive remarks or jabs when speaking OOCly with other members, and be willing to understand and respect each other no matter what.

Things can happen IRL, and people can get upset for any number of reasons, but that being said, we ask our members to keep IC and OOC bleed to an absolute minimum, for behind every screen is a person with feelings and emotions, and whether you agree with them or not on any given topic, they need to be treated respectfully as a human being.

Our goal is to cultivate a positive, fun environment where everyone can have fun, and that means everyone, and not at anyone's expense or discomfort. Be able to differentiate between IC anger and OOC anger, and if need be, calmly take a step back and take a breather if you find yourself overwhelmed.

We are an 18+ free company, so we expect our members to be able to handle things professionally like adults. Aggression only breeds more aggression, and it is possible for things to spiral out of control. Be the first one to step up.

As this also falls under respect, we ask our members to respect each other's boundaries. Do not force others to RP scenarios that they're not comfortable partaking in OOCly. If someone asks you to stop, do it. And if you are in the position where you must tell someone to stop, do it politely, and as respectfully as possible, and let an officer know.

If someone is roleplaying, avoid being disruptive if you're OOC in the same area. If you're going to attack another character, ask beforehand on how they would like to resolve it OOC. Don't powergame, metagame or godmode---this also falls under respecting other players, and since this is a free company that aims to work with individuals and groups outside of our own, this is very critical.

Hateful or violent speech of any type, especially when directed at another member, will not be tolerated. This includes imagery or content that is harmful, hateful, threatening, abusive, defamatory, spiteful, invasive of personal privacy, or objectionable in a reasonable person's view. Aim to keep political and controversial topics out of FC chat or the General channel in Discord.

This also includes actions performed in-game and/or the Discord channel. If you really do feel compelled to post something that may be of that nature, we ask that you do not post it in General chat or in the FC chat in-game, to keep it to the shitposting channel*, or to keep it to yourself.

If you wish to submit a complaint or concern, be it about something that is happening that concerns you while roleplaying in-game, we ask that you provide a clear screenshot with your claim to help support it, which will help us both with context, getting a clearer picture of the situation at hand, and making things a lot easier in general for everyone involved with handling the matter.

* if this becomes an issue, the channel itself will be deleted

2. Participate.

Greet your fellow members when they log in, interact with them, and be a part of this community. What you put in is what you're going to get back, so if you're contributing nothing both OOCly and/or ICly, you'll be getting nothing in return, and we can't have that.

As an FFXIV roleplay free company, we encourage our members to jump in and start roleplaying---you joined for roleplay, so it should go without saying that you should be roleplaying. Yes, you can have your off-days, and there may be times when things come up IRL, and we understand, but this is first and foremost a roleplay free company, so we should have active members who play the game who are roleplaying and writing or developing their characters through the stories that are woven.

As such, we will be enforcing a new activity limit of 30 days before a person is removed from the free company, unless otherwise discussed with another Officer beforehand. Allowances can be made, but within reason, as we wish to grow this free company into being a happier, more active roleplay hub with plenty of activity both in-game and on Discord.

If you must take a leave of absence, please speak to us about it beforehand.

In terms of Discord for this free company, Discord is meant to be a means to keep in contact, and to allow our members to roleplay when not able to log on.

However, it should not trump in-game roleplay or become the only means of interaction. Get active, get going, and have some fun with this! You're here for fun, so get out there and write some adventures! This is why we're here!

As we are a free company that is aiming to interact with others in the community, that requires you to log in so we can actually run events with other free companies and get some community plots going. Attend events in the community and build your character!

3. Aim for Realism.

Character development, skill, and passage of time should be somewhat realistic. We want the sort of characters that are more akin to npcs, versus grand heroes of legend or Warriors of Light, so while some bending is allowed, we ask that you make an effort to stay lore-stringent as much as possible. We also aim to be a more immersive roleplay group, so keep development, skill, and the passage of time for progression reasonable for a character in the world of Eorzea. So long as you are making your best effort, we can respect that.

As well, know your lore**. We strive to avoid any contradictions with established game lore, however there is still plenty of room for creativity and mild-bending, within reason.

Our Aim for Realism rule will also extend to Fantasia. This means no crazy race-changing Fantasia-sprees (going from one race to another every two weeks). Smaller changes to the appearance are fine, but it becomes hard to get to know a character if we only get to meet you once, and then never again. This creates a cycle where your only interaction with us is a constant introduction, and this can become frustrating both for us, as well as for you, and limit your roleplay experience.

**If you are new to FFXIV Lore or are in doubt about anything lore-wise, you're welcome to tap an officer to get your questions answered  or get a second opinion. We have access to the Encyclopedia Eorzea and we don't mind providing information from it or to help you research.

As well, be willing to accept that in-character actions will have in-character consequences, so be prepared to roleplay that out. We want fun, but if something happens as a result of someone's actions, there should be consequences for it. Consequences, in and of itself, provide for more roleplay opportunities, so be prepared to roleplay that out.

In regards to our rules in general,

if you have any concerns, or if you have an issue with something,

we ask you to reach out to us and let us know.
